CHAPTER 15: ONLINE
CHAPTER TYPE: EVENT
If you’re anything like me, you’ve used the Internet as a way to get out of the abuse you’ve gone through in your life. It’s felt like a space where you can be authentically yourself and find community, when none of those things have been granted to you by default. But what happens when the one place you’ve relied on for comfort turns against you, as well? And, even worse, when no one around you seems to think there’s anything wrong with what’s being done to you? Your traumatic experiences of having your identity stolen or your legal name smeared beyond recognition turn into the punchline of everyone else’s jokes. Where does that leave you as a victim? And how do you make them realize that logging off from abuse is simply not the reality they are telling you it is?
